April 15, 2012I have just received the sad news that Barbara Buchholz, virtuoso thereminist, died earlier today April 10th of 2012. She was just 52.
I had the pleasure of meeting her at the 2010 Berlin Jazz Fest I am visiting regularly. She was very friendly, helpful and positive person. With her mind wild open and heart willing to share an experience with everyone who just shown honest interest she was a real diamond. I hoped to meet her again when will appear in Berlin this year to finish my short interview with her and ask about how are things going with material for new recording we have been talking about. Sadly her waves gone forever and we just had been left with hopes that some reverbs survived in inner circles she shared with those who attended her workshops run over the years across the world. Sunk in sadness I am looking forward to hear them again. My sympathy to her friends and family and all those whom she left.
RIP Barbara – I am glad I got a chance to meet you and spent even this half hour after concert talking to you. If I only new they it is going to be my only time given.
Barbara Buchholz was not just a virtuoso player, but she also helped to bring the theremin to new audiences, appearing on the German version of ‘Got Talent’ and teaching seminars around the world on the instrument.
